CAMPUS SUMMARY
Chatham College, founded in 1869, is one of the oldest women’s colleges in the United States, and the only nationally ranked liberal arts college in Pittsburgh. The college’s history of preparing World Ready Women is visible through the impact Chatham women have as teachers, professionals, and civic leaders. Corporate CEOs, U.S. judges, a NASA chief scientist and the founder of the modern environmental movement all call Chatham College their alma mater.

Designated a national arboretum, Chatham's 32-acre campus is located in a safe and beautiful neighborhood just minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, arts and entertainment venues, hiking/biking trails and many other attractions. Pittsburgh is also home to eight other institutions of higher learning with a total student population of over 100,000 – making Pittsburgh College City USA an incredible place to live and learn.

UNIQUE/SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Chatham College makes a difference in the lives of its students. Leadership, the environment, and professional growth all play a part in a Chatham education. The college offers degrees in over 30 undergraduate majors and nine coeducational graduate programs, as well as continuing education programs. Students also have the opportunity to earn both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees in as little as five years through the college’s Integrated Degree Program, in disciplines including Biology, Landscape Studies, Occupational Therapy, Teaching, and Writing.

Chatham’s educational distinctions include the Chatham Abroad program for all sophomores – a multi-week travel experience with classmates and faculty during the sophomore year. Students have traveled to destinations such as Haiti, Belize, Morocco, Egypt, Norway and Eastern Europe. The Chatham College Global Focus Program focuses on one country or region of the world each year to study and incorporate in special programs, courses and cultural events. Chatham also offers extensive service opportunities both at home and abroad, and the Senior Tutorial one-on-one with a faculty mentor.

The Centers of Excellence are open to all students on campus. The Center for Women, Politics and Public Policy at Chatham College is the first organization in the state to focus specifically on women's political participation. The Rachel Carson Institute of Chatham College was established in 1989 to further the ideals and spirit of environmental pioneer and Chatham alumna Rachel Carson, author of Silent Spring and the founder of the modern environmental movement.
