Visitax: the new Quintana Roo tourism tax

What do I need to know about the Visitax?

First of all, it would be good to give you an idea about the Mexican tax. Visitax is a tax that is imposed on all foreigners over the age of 4 travelling to the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico. Still called Visitax Mexico, this new tax was introduced in 2021, with a grant to raise funds for local tourism. It is paid only once and covers the period of stay. 

On the other hand, it is important to note that this new tourist tax is only for foreigners who wish to visit Quintana Roo. Specifically Cancún, Puerto Morelos, Play adel, Carmen, Tulum and Puerto Aventuras are the destinations affected. The reasons for travel authorised for the Visatax are mainly tourism, health, study and business.

What are the steps to follow to pay the Visatax?

 Paying Visatax requires certain steps to be taken. These steps take a maximum of 5 minutes to complete. Before starting the payment process, you must have a valid passport, an email address, a credit card or a PayPal account. To do this, you must go to the "Touristtax Mexico" website and fill in the Visatax payment form correctly.

After completing the form, you must use the secure page to make the payment by credit card or PayPal account. Finally, one hour later, you will receive a payment confirmation email and a unique QR code. However, it is highly recommended to print a copy of the payment receipt to be kept with the other travel documents.
